SAHMRI

The South Australia Health & Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) was established in direct response to identified needs in the South Australian, national and global communities and was incorporated as the state’s first independent flagship health and medical research institute in December 2009. As a new entity, SAHMRI will significantly increase the nation’s capacity for leading scientific research.

Building a team of more than 600 outstanding researchers, who will work together in the search for better treatments and cures for some of the world’s most challenging diseases creating a world-class precinct of medical research and clinical application, with state-of-the-art laboratories and equipment in a purpose-built, iconic, 25,000 square-metre facility, adjacent to the site of the new Royal Adelaide Hospital (NRAH).

Westlab projects team worked with Woods Bagot Architect and Adelaide builders to design, manufacturer and install a portion of the custom laboratory joinery and furniture package across multiple levels of the SAHMRI. Challenges included PC2 compliance in all inclusions resulting in unique customisation to ensure full compliance with Australian standards.
